From “About To” to Ready Enough
Which one of these statements best describes you?
I’ll decide once I feel confident my decision is smart, strategic, and not emotional.
I just want to talk this through with someone one more time.
I need to be certain this won’t cause stress for anyone.
I need to do a bit more research to be sure I have all the right information and details.
My guess is that one of these resonates with you — and keeps you in the “I’m almost ready” phase.
There’s something oddly comforting about being ‘about to’ do something, isn’t there? Being ‘about to’ feels productive yet comes without any risk. It allows us to feel responsible without committing. It’s a safe place, a familiar place, there’s very little pressure in this place.
Living in the land of ‘about to’ gives us all kinds of reasonable excuses to keep waiting for the perfect moment. You know those excuses… when the kids are out of diapers, in school, or graduated… when I get the promotion at my job or retire from my job… when the market feels more certain… Waiting to feel fully ready is often just another way of waiting forever… and the truth is, we never really stay in one place; we’re always moving forward or slipping back.
Have you been sitting on the fence by becoming a victim of the news cycle? If so, you may find yourself stuck in hesitation mode — influenced by headlines about fluctuating interest rates, what pundits predict and say about the housing market, and the constant stream of “wait and see” commentary. Those who recently enjoyed 3–4% rates may feel frozen at the thought of today’s higher rates, wondering if they should wait for the perfect dip that may never come. But the truth is, waiting for rates to return to ‘perfect’ can mean waiting forever — while opportunities to move forward still exist now.
So, what are a few steps you could take today to shake yourself out of the wait-and-see / hesitation / sitting-on-the-fence / ‘about to’ mode? Maybe it’s simply touring homes or popping into an open house to see what’s really out there. Perhaps it’s getting a bit of a leg up by becoming pre-approved, just so you understand your options. Or… how about having a conversation with an agent to explore possibilities?
While no step may be perfect, taking steps is still progress. Remember, there is no such thing as staying still. Even a small step can move you closer to clarity as you create your next chapter. Sometimes the smallest step is simply learning what’s possible. When you’re ready to explore options or ask questions, we’re happy to help — at whatever pace feels right to you.
