SHOULD I BUY OR SELL A HOME DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

Who doesn’t need just one more thing to add to their holiday ‘TO DO’ list? If you are considering buying or selling a home, you may feel that making that decision during the holiday season is not for you. However, here are some reasons you may want to reconsider that decision.

For the Prospective Buyer:

-Take advantage of the fact that you will likely have less competition for a property.

-Less traffic also means you’ll be less distracted, making it easier for you to notice all the details of the home.

-Fewer competing offers leaves room for opportunities to negotiate pricing.

-Buying before December 31 allows you to deduct mortgage interest, property taxes, and interest costs of loans.

For the Prospective Seller:

-Fewer people list their homes during the holidays which translates to less competition for your home.

-Your home’s appearance will be enhanced by your holiday decorations, and buyers will love a festive and cheerful neighborhood.

-Even though there may be fewer potential buyers, those shopping for a new home tend to be serious buyers AND can often result in a quicker sale.

-January is typically a high ‘transfer’ month for those moving for their jobs and careers.

-According to one website, ‘buyers tend to be more emotional during the holidays and may be more likely to make decisions based on the feeling.

What’s the takeaway?? The holidays can be the PERFECT time to buy or sell a home. Perhaps you do need to add one more thing to that holiday ‘TO Do’ list!
