Somewhere Between Zillow and Amazon, We Lost Our Minds

Here’s a little peek into my head… you know the saying, “I’ve got a song stuck in my head”? Well, not me. NOPE—I’ve got an entire orchestra going on in there.

And honestly, I think that’s what life feels like for a lot of people right now.

Too many choices. Too many opinions. Too many tabs open. Too much NOISE.

Standing in the cereal aisle trying to decide between 47 versions of basically the same thing. Scrolling Netflix for 45 minutes only to end up watching… nothing. Opening Amazon and finding 7,412 versions of the exact same item.

What does this have to do with real estate? More than you might think.

At some point, we started believing that more options—and the next new shiny thing—were always better.

But honestly? I’m not sure that’s actually true anymore.

Instead of helping us feel more certain, all those options often leave us more overwhelmed and somehow less clear than when we started.

We research. We ask ChatGPT or Claude, watch YouTube videos, read reviews, ask opinions, open more tabs.

And nowhere does this show up more than in real estate.

With Zillow, Realtor.com, AI tools, and online estimates, buyers now have access to more homes and more information than ever before.

Buyers start comparing everything to everything else. One house has a better kitchen. Another has a bigger yard. Another has newer flooring.

I’ve seen it—buyers start thinking the perfect home is just one more click away.

And sellers? Many are starting to believe they can navigate everything themselves because information is everywhere now. AI can generate descriptions. Online platforms can estimate value. A phone can take decent pictures.

But information and strategy are not the same thing.

Knowing how a buyer thinks, what makes a home stand out, how pricing affects perception, or how to position a property in a competitive market—that’s a little harder to pull from an app or an algorithm.

And honestly, that’s where the role of a good agent matters most.

Not simply opening doors, sending listings, or putting a sign in the yard—but helping clients slow down enough to separate what sounds good in the moment from what will actually serve them well long term.

Because sometimes the best guidance isn’t telling people what they want to hear—it’s helping them make decisions that truly align with their goals, lifestyle, finances, and long-term best interests.

My job isn’t simply to help someone buy or sell a house—it’s to help them make a decision they’ll feel good about long after the excitement and scrolling wear off.

And sometimes that’s where another perspective can help—not more listings, more tabs, or more opinions… just someone helping you narrow the noise a bit.

So if you ever find yourself 42 tabs deep into Zillow and more confused than when you started, I’m always happy to talk it through (call or coffee – my treat!)

And honestly, half the battle these days is simply knowing when to stop scrolling.
